Common questions

How do I start?

Type or paste the requirement from the form on the first screen, scan it, or pick a preset. Then choose up to 20 photos and tap Convert. You can also start with the photos and set the format, file size and dimensions by hand on the target screen. Dimensions can be an exact size, the long edge, the width or the height alone, a percentage or a shape such as 1:1 or 4:5, and a size can be a minimum or have a largest size above it.

What can I convert, and to what?

Photos and image files from Photos or Files, up to 20 at a time. Results are JPEG, PNG or HEIC. A PDF can be scanned for the requirement written in it, but it is not converted.

Is the result guaranteed to be accepted?

SartorX sets what it can measure: the format, the file size, the pixel size, the DPI tag and the metadata. A photo marked ready meets those rules. It does not check what the photo shows, such as the position of a face, lighting, glasses or how old the photo is. The visa and passport presets are starting points, not guarantees. Check the official source before you submit.

What do “Suggested” and “Not applied” mean?

“Suggested” lists values the text recommends or doesn’t state fully, for example a recommended size beside a required one. Nothing there is used until you tap it. “Not applied” lists things the text asks for that SartorX doesn’t do or check. Check those yourself.

The app asks which one I need.

Some texts give different rules for different things, such as a photo and a signature, or a thumbnail and a full-size image. SartorX asks which one your file is, so that their rules are never mixed. It also asks for a resolution (dpi) when a size is given in millimetres, centimetres or inches, because that is what turns it into pixels.

The app says a photo doesn’t fit. What now?

Some rules can’t all be met at once, for example a small file size at a large pixel size. The card under the photo suggests a way out and shows what it costs. Nothing that lowers quality or changes the pixel size is applied until you tap it.

The app says a photo is smaller than the target.

The photo has fewer pixels than the form asks for. Enlarging adds pixels but not detail, so the result can look soft. SartorX never does it without asking: tap Enlarge, or choose a larger photo.

My HEIC photo is still HEIC.

With Format set to Keep, a photo stays in the format it came in, and many upload forms don’t take HEIC. The target screen says so and offers “Make it JPEG”. A JPEG of the same photo is usually a larger file.

What does “Filled” mean?

Some forms set a smallest file size, and a small picture can come out under it. For a JPEG, SartorX can add empty bytes to the file until it reaches the minimum. The picture itself is not changed. It is offered on the target screen and never done without your tap.

The converted file isn’t smaller than the original.

SartorX fits a photo to the rules, it doesn’t compress for its own sake. A photo that already meets them is passed on unchanged. A photo that has to be written again, for example in another format, is written at high quality, inside any limit you set, which can be more bytes than it had. To get a smaller file, set a file size limit.

The file size differs from what the website shows.

Some websites count 1 KB as 1000 bytes, others as 1024. You can change which one SartorX uses in its Settings, under “1 KB equals”.

The white background wasn’t applied.

SartorX replaces the background only where it can tell the subject from what is behind it. Where it can’t, the photo keeps its own background and the result says “Background kept”.

Where do my converted photos go?

Nowhere until you choose. On the results screen, “Save photo” offers Photos, Files and Share. Saved to Photos, a result is added to your library as a new photo and your original stays as it is. SartorX keeps no copy of its own, so it asks before you leave the results without saving or sharing.

Saving to Photos doesn’t work.

SartorX needs permission to add photos. Open the Settings app, find SartorX under Apps, and allow it to add to Photos. You can also save to Files instead.

Scan can’t use the camera.

Open the Settings app, find SartorX under Apps, and allow Camera. You can also scan without the camera: pick a screenshot, an image file or a PDF of the requirement instead.

I can’t find SartorX in the share sheet.

In Photos, select up to 20 photos and tap Share. If SartorX isn’t in the row of apps, look under More at the end of the row and add it there. The share sheet takes photos only.

The scan or the pasted text was read wrongly.

Check the rules shown before you continue. In a longer text, each rule is shown with the words it was read from. After a scan, “Not read clearly” lists values from lines the scan wasn’t sure of: they are not used until you tap them. If one is wrong, set the format, size and dimensions by hand on the target screen. Sending us the requirement text helps us improve this.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens on your iPhone and the app makes no network connection. See the Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my data?

The app stores only your settings, your own presets and the History list, on your iPhone. You can clear History, or delete a single entry, in the app. Deleting the app removes everything.
